Your Pallay Punchu + Raqchi Tour from Cusco begins early in the morning with hotel or Airbnb pick-up in Cusco between approximately 4:00 and 4:30 AM. Once the group is assembled, we travel south through the Andean countryside toward Cusipata, passing rural communities, agricultural areas, valleys, and mountain landscapes.
At approximately 6:30 to 7:00 AM, we arrive in Cusipata for a buffet breakfast, giving you time to eat, rest, and prepare for the high-altitude hike ahead. After breakfast, we continue by tourist transportation for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes toward the starting point of the Pallay Punchu trail. As the route climbs into the high Andes, the scenery becomes increasingly remote and dramatic.
Upon arrival at the trailhead, your professional guide will provide a short safety briefing and explain the route before beginning the hike.
Pallay Punchu Hike
The ascent is divided into several sections leading toward the main colorful formations of Pallay Punchu Mountain. The first formation is reached after approximately 20 minutes of hiking. From there, the trail continues for another 30 minutes toward the second formation, followed by approximately 45 additional minutes to reach the third and most distant viewpoint.
Along the route, you will observe the characteristic mineral-rich ridges of Pallay Punchu, with natural shades of red, ochre, yellow, brown, and other tones that create its distinctive layered appearance.
At the main viewpoints, you will have time to rest, take photographs, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and high-Andean landscapes while your guide provides information about the geography and natural environment of the region.
Return Hike
After completing the visit, we begin the descent along the same route. The return from the third formation takes approximately 45 minutes, followed by around 30 minutes from the second formation and approximately 20 minutes from the first formation back to the starting point. Once the group reaches the trailhead, we board the tourist vehicle and continue with the cultural portion of the tour.
Raqchi Archaeological Site
After the Pallay Punchu hike, we travel to the Raqchi Archaeological Park, an important Inca complex located south of Cusco. During the visit, you will have the opportunity to see the impressive Temple of Wiracocha, together with other archaeological structures that formed part of this important Inca settlement.
The visit to Raqchi is optional. Travelers who wish to enter must pay the corresponding entrance fee directly. Passengers who choose not to visit the archaeological site may remain in the tourist vehicle while the group completes the visit. Because the tour follows a fixed full-day schedule, the time at Raqchi is limited in order to maintain the planned return time to Cusco.
Buffet Lunch in Cusipata
After the cultural visit, we continue to a local restaurant in Cusipata, where a buffet lunch is included. This is an opportunity to rest and recover after the hike before beginning the journey back to Cusco.
Return to Cusco
At approximately 3:00 PM, we begin the return journey to Cusco. Arrival in the city is expected at approximately 5:00 PM, depending on traffic, road conditions, weather, and the pace of the group.
